Great Teams
Great Teams—Introduction

Great Teams

In every country in the world, and in every sport, certain teams stand out above the crowd.  Some teams dominate a sport over a long period of time, yet the team that plays in a particular season will stand out above all the others.  In other cases, the history of a club is brief and yet one of its teams is remembered for many years thereafter.  Galt Football Club dominated Ontario soccer towards the end of the 1800s and into the 1900s, and yet the team that won the Gold Medal at the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis stands out above all others of that time as a great team.  The same applies to the 1927–28 version of the Westminster Royals.  The Royals went on to win many more national championships after that year, but there was something very special about the team that won the national championship at the end of the 1927–28 season.  There were many other great teams before the outbreak of World War Two, and they will be added to this section in due course.  All of them have that special indefinable something that makes them remembered above all others.
